The Swedana word is derived from the Sanskrit word swid, which means “to sweat.” According to the principles of Ayurveda, sweating releases toxins from the body, promoting general health.
Procedure of Abhyanga is usually followed by Swedana.
It can be performed by different ways. Pottali swedan is one such unique type of swedana mentioned in Ayurveda. It is performed with Pottali (pouch) usually made up of different Ayurveda herbs, medicated rice, etc.
In the process of Pottali swedan, the herbal pouch is dipped into warm Ayurveda oil, medicated milk etc. and is applied on person’s body.
